Football at Shrewsbury House is led by our Head of Football, a UEFA qualified coach, supported by our dedicated games staff. Our programme is built on tailored training sessions, aiming to foster player development and challenge our pupils. With access to world-class facilities, including a state-of-the-art full-size 4G surface within the school grounds, as well as three full-size senior grass pitches and six junior grass pitches at Shrewsbury House Sports Ground, our boys have everything they need to excel.

Throughout the Autumn Term, every games session is crafted to enhance technical skills, teamwork, and resilience, while encouraging pupils to make independent in-game decisions. All of the boys play football, and we offer ample opportunities for fixtures against other prep schools, as well as participation in regional and national tournaments. Our pupils revel in the opportunities to develop their skills and the excitement of competitive play.

Beyond the many victories and accolades, football at Shrewsbury House is about embedding our school values through training and performance, fostering a lifelong love for the game.

Rugby is the cornerstone in the sporting calendar and continues to thrive here at Shrewsbury House with over 330 pupils and 30 teams playing competitive fixtures and competitions throughout the season. With access to state-of-the-art facilities, including a full size 4G pitch (IRB approved) and three full-size senior grass pitches at Shrewsbury House Sports Ground, as well as international tours to South Africa, our pupils have everything they need to enjoy their rugby experience with us.

Shrewsbury House is committed to rugby for all and the welfare of the pupils sits at the forefront of our delivery. The exciting new partnership with Prevent Biometrics and Opro has Shrewsbury House as a leading prep school in contributing to the improvement in safety in school rugby through the use of Instrumented Mouthguards (iMGs). With coaching from two Level 3 coaches, an ex-professional, along with other experienced staff we ensure your son reaches his rugby potential here at Shrewsbury House.

The strong values and fundamental skills for rugby instilled at Shrewsbury House has helped past pupils such as, Jack Musk and Josh Bellamy make the step into professional rugby, while other past pupils have gained representative honours at county, regional and national level.

Although cricket is delivered primarily throughout the summer term, indoor net training (on the school site) takes place throughout the winter months for those boys who wish to hone their skills.

All boys play cricket and all are given the opportunity to play in competitive matches. With a wonderful square and wicket at Shrewsbury House Sports Ground, and the opportunity to play on our All-Weather Surface, the boys have the best of both worlds. Many of the teams have experienced success in local and county competition.

The senior boys are given the opportunity to tour the Caribbean and play multiple matches against talented local schools and clubs. This proves valuable not only in sporting terms, but also in extending the cultural and hospitality experience of pupils at the School.

Shrewsbury House School has a dedicated and experienced team charged with delivering a comprehensive and successful cricket programme.

Swimming forms an integral part of school life and we have our own swimming pool on the school site. Aside from the competitive elements to the year-round programme, we all recognise that swimming is an important life skill.

The noisy (and great fun!) House Galas provide the opportunity for all boys to compete for their House in competitive races. We also offer other water-based activities such as water polo and life-saving skills.

Competitions take place throughout the year in galas with local schools. Opportunities for the most able swimmers include entry to regional and national competition.

Athletics is delivered alongside cricket in the summer term. The sport forms the foundation for the teaching of Shrewsbury House's PE programme throughout the final months of the academic year.

Through this programme, all boys at the school will participate in Athletics, the culmination of which are the House Sports Days. The sport is further supported by the House Pentathlon. This event sees every pupil, regardless of age or ability, compete in a whole host of run, jump and throw events.

The development of inter-school competition has benefited from additional events and Shrewsbury House School is often successful in securing victories over local opposition. The strongest athletes are supported in regional and national competition.

Athletics offers sport in its purest form and is of huge benefit to all boys.
